about

Nicte-Ha was first conceived in the Summer of 1981 as the moniker, obsession, and survival mechanism, of Ernesto Diaz-Infante. At fourteen years old, he was bored and trapped in Prunedale (a small rural town near Salinas), California. Now, close to forty years later, the crusty cassettes have been digitized before they disintegrated. The moniker Nicte-Ha is based on the Mayan legend about a Princess who is transformed into a water lily. Based on this need of transformation and escape, Nicte-Ha created seven cassettes over a two year period. “The Early Unearthing” is a selected group of these home recordings, lo-fi instrumental tracks and songs that are a testament to one's essence.
